REPUBLIKA, JAKARTA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has committed to sign bill on village management as soon as possible. The bill is a milestone in state life and village administration system.
"This bill is a government initiative that is important presented in our country. If government and House of Representative pass the bill, so I will immediately sign it," Yudhoyono said on Wednesday.
The bill is a new milestone as related to government framework and to show what must be implemented by village, including its rights and obligations. President underlined role of village for national advancement. Government wants to encourage some efforts to empower rural communities.
"I hope this mandate can be distributed and executed well," Yudhoyono said.
President asked related ministries, governors, mayors and regents to set a budget for village that would be distributed properly. He also asked head of village to perform his duties and use budget as well as possible. People are also involved in rural development. For example, National Program for Community Empowerment (PNPM) is conducted by Bank Mandiri and gained public appreciation.
