Each village to get 700 million IDR per year

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Draft Law on Village Management has been approved at plenary session in Parliament Complex, Jakarta. With this new rule, each village in Indonesia will get allocation budget worth 700 million per year.

Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives, Priyo Budi Santoso said that the Law would guarantee the welfare of village administrative officers. As written in 7th Article and 2nd Paragraph, one of village revenues comes from state budget.

Villages also get other revenues from operation budget, assets, self help funds and participation funds. A village can also get local taxes and levies, district or city's retribution, village allocation funds and also financial assistance from provincial budget, donations and grants, as well as non binding third party funds.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has committed to sign bill on village management as soon as possible. The bill is a milestone in state life and village administration system.

"This bill is a government initiative that is important presented in our country. If government and House of Representative pass the bill, so I will immediately sign it," Yudhoyono said recently.

The bill is a new milestone as related to government framework and to show what must be implemented by village, including its rights and obligations. President underlined role of village for national advancement. Government wants to encourage some efforts to empower rural communities.
