REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Police succesfully rescued about 161 Indonesian women workers alleged as human trafficking victims in Bekasi, East Java at 01:00 am on Tuesday. Members of Police conducted a raid on one of houses at Cendana Street, Jaka Sampurna village, Bekasi, that was used as a confinement house.
The house is owned by PT Mahkota Ulfa Sejahtera which acts as broker of illegal workers. Com Pol Arie Dharmanto explained that the operation was carried out after some residents reported their suspicion over the house.
"After the raid, we found hundreds of women workers in poor conditions," Dharmanto said recently.
Many of them were sick because the house was locked from outside by the owner. Ida Rosida, a victim said that she had been detained in the house since three months ago. She often got bad treatments by company management. All victims come from various regions in Indonesia, such as Cianjur, Tegal, Lampung and East Nusa Tenggara.
