KPK names Banten governor as suspect in medical equipments procurement

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Governor Banten (Ratu Atut Chosiyah) as suspect in money laundering case in procurement of medical equipments in Banten. KPK will conduct an investigation over Chosiyah and her brother (Tubagus Chaer Wardhana) as suspects.

"Commission estimated project value involving Chosiyah worth 9.313 billion USD," KPK Spokesman, johan Budi said recently.

One of her lawyers, Andi Simangunsong said that he was shocked to determination of his client as a suspect in case of medical equipments procurement. The reason, he did not know about procurement project in Banten. He also denied that his client's role as a power budget user in medical equipments project. He wanted to know how the legal construction until KPK named Chosiyah as suspect.

According to him, determination of Chosiyah as suspect is only because Wardhana as her brother who is also a businessman. If Wardhana was involved in corruption, it did not mean Chosiyah also involved in every project in Banten. Unusual fund in case of medical equipments procurement in Banten Provincial Health Office reached 30.257 billion IDR.

Chosiyah was named as suspect in her capacity as Banten governor, while Wardhana as Commissioner of PT Bali Pacific Pragama. KPK will not quit and still develop this case to other parties allegedly involved. Commission may set other suspects.
