REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - At least 2.12 trillion IDR would be needed for the repair of roads battered by heavy flooding and landslides all over the Indonesia.
The cost is for emergency repairs around 510.32 billion IDR and permanent repairs around 1.517 trillion IDR, highway construction director general Djoko Murjanto said here.
Djoko said the estimation was made until Tuesday Jan. 28. Hence, the cost will likely be larger as the threat of floods are not yet over.
In fact a number of main streets in Jakarta and highways in the regions were still submerged by flood waters until last Wednesday, he said. Repairs have yet to wait until the roads are dry or there are no more pools of water in the roads, Murjanto added.
"The best thing we can do right now is to fill pot-holes with rocks to reduce the danger of traffic accidents," he said.
He said a lot of repairs needed in Java along its northern coast highway and in Manado of North Sulawesi, the hardest hit by floodings and landslides so far this year in the country. In Manado-Tomohon highway there were 16 of 32 locations needed immediate repairs, Murjanto said, adding an emergency fund of 45 billion IDR would be needed.
Repairs are also needed for highways in South Sumatra, Bengkulu and Southeast Sulawesi. Based on data at the Highway Construction Directorate General, there are at least 7,000 pot-holes along the northern coast highway of Java that require repair over a total length of 100 kilometers.
