REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- About 19 volcanoes in Indonesia have had their statuses raised from normal to alert levels starting Sunday (Feb. 2), spokesman to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho stated here on Monday.

According to Sutopo, the BNPB have not yet called for evacuation because the symptoms detected so far are not indicative of any eruptions.

Currently there are 127 active volcanoes in Indonesia, out of which, Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province had erupted last Saturday (Feb. 1), killing 14 people.
