REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GOWA -- The police questioned six witnesses in connection with the shooting of its officer in the Gowa district, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday.
Based on the testimonies provided by the six witnesses, the police will create a sketch of the likely suspect, Head of Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division at the National Police Headquarters Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar stated on Wednesday.
He claimed that the police will draw a sketch of the suspect charged with shooting the police officer. The police officer has been identified as posthumous First Inspector H. Muhammad Daud.
Muhammad Daud, who was a member of the Gowa district police, was shot dead while he was on his way to the mosque to perform dawn prayers on Tuesday.
"As the incident occurred at dawn, the witnesses could not clearly see the culprit. Four of the witnesses heard the sound of a gunshot (sound of shooting)," he reported.
However, the shooting caused no damage to the nearby houses, he added.
The Gowa district police and the South Sulawesi provincial police are investigating the shooting case in order to discover the motive behind it, he remarked.
Earlier, Head of the Public Information Section of the Public Relations Division at the National Police Headquarters Snr. Comr. Agus Rianto stated that Muhammad Daud was shot dead while he saw an unidentified person trying to burgle a house.
Muhammad Daud suffered gunshot injuries on his left chest and stomach, he claimed.
Agus noted that the body of Muhammad Daud was taken to the Bhayangkara police hospital in the South Sulawesi provincial capital of Makassar for an autopsy, before being flown to his hometown in Binjai, North Sumatra, for burial.
