REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- One of the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) campaigners, Meliana Pancarani, who is also an artist, spoke in the Mandarin language in her campaign here on Thursday.
"I spoke in Mandarin because many citizens in my constituencies are Chinese descendants," Meliana Pancarani, who is popularly called Rani, said here on Thursday.
Rani said, while campaigning, she wanted to develop the current television shows to educate the community and not just entertain.
In addition to speaking in Mandarin during the campaign, Rani also often sang in the language, which is considered one of the most difficult in the world.
Twelve political parties began their campaigns for the upcoming legislative elections on April 9, 2014 on Sunday.
Indonesia will hold legislative elections on April 9 and presidential elections on July 9, 2014. The campaign period for legislative elections is from March 16 to April 5, 2014.
This year, the General Elections Commission (KPU) had decided that 15 political parties in Indonesia were eligible to participate in the elections.
Three of them are local parties for the Aceh electorate, including the Aceh Party (Partai Aceh-PA), the Aceh People's Party (Partai Rakyat Aceh-PRA) and the Aceh Sovereignty Party (Partai Daulat Aceh-PDA).
The other 12 parties are the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), the Nation's Awakening Party (PKB), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the Golkar Party (Golkar) and the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra).
Also included in the line-up are the Democratic Party (Demokrat), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the United Development Party (PPP), the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), the Crescent and Star Party (PBB) and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI).
