REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Gerindra party is optimistic to reach 20 percent of votes in legislative election on April 9, 2014. Secretary General of Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani said that the target was realistic.
"We sure we can reach 20 percent of votes or 112 seats in parliament," Muzani said on Tuesday as reported by Erik Purnama Putra.
Muzani said that the party needed to work hard to get it. Moreover, some pollsters showed that result was below 20 percent. However, he saw that the struggle in the last five years with the establishment of infrastructure and cadres' training could make it happen.
In 2009 election, Gerindra only got 26 seats in parliament. The party will announce the running mate of its presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto, after the legislative election, which is set to take place on April 9.
Law No.42/2008 on the presidential election stipulates that only a political party or a coalition that get 20 percent of legislative seats or 25 percent of the popular vote in the April 2014 legislative election is eligible to contest the presidential election.
