REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A candidate of Democratic Party's convention, Anies Baswedan said that Democratic party should be optimistic although quick count result in 2014 general election put Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) in the first place. He is optimistic that the party will play a significant role as the party has high experiences in building coalition system.
"This result forces all parties to form coalition in order to bring out the presidential candidate," Baswedan said recently.
According to the rector of Paramadina University, Democratic Party is the only party not depending to one presidential candidate only. Currently the party is still running a convention to pick its presidential candidate for the presidential election.
PDIP gained 19.2 percent of votes in general election, followed by Golkar party (14.7 percent), Gerindra party (11.8 percent) and Democratic party (9.6 percent). While National Awakening Party (PKB) gained 9.3 percent, National Mandate Party (PAN) (7.3 percent), National Democratic (Nasdem) party, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), United Development Party (PPP) and People's Conscience Party (Hanura).
