Police arrest fugitive leader of separatist South Maluku Republic

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Head Executive of South Maluku Republic (RMS), a separatist front was arrested by police in Batu Gantung, Nusaniwe, Ambon on Friday. He was arrested when walking at Batu Gantung Street with several of his followers.

Saiya is RMS's head executive replacing Alexander Manuputty who is now a fugitive in United States. Manuputty escaped from Cipinang jail since 2003 and currently stayed at US. Saiya was a fugitive since 'The Wild Dance' while commemorating National Family Day XIV in Ambon on June 29, 2007.

His followers were secured at Ambon island police office and Lease islands for some tests. Ambon police, Com Martuany Siregar admitted the arrest. A RMS flag, which is called 'benang raja' and two United Nation's flag have been secured as evidence.

'The Wild Dance' was performed at National Family Day in Ambon, which was attended by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady, Ani Yudhoyono. In the event, about 39 RMS followers were detained.
