REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo (known as Jokowi) who is also the presidential candidate of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) promised to help female workers against discrimination.
According to Listyowati, one of 20 female workers meeting with Jokowi on Thursday, female workers faced discrimination on their salary. She added that they did not even get family allowance, menstrual leave, and maternal leave.
They also urge government to ratify bill of Protection on Domestic Worker to guarantee their rights to be treated fairly and humanly by their employers.
"I cannot talk much, but i got the picture. I wish I can help them," Jokowi said.
Jokowi said that his guests had reasonable demands, like decent job, wage, and life. Government, he added, should address the issues. In the end of the meeting which lasting for 30 minutes, the female workers handed a pice of towel to Jokowi, as a symbol of his care for female workers.
