REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Muhammadiyah youth wing should support Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa in their joint bid to contest the upcoming presidential election on July 9, 2014, according to Saleh Partaonan Daulay, the organization's youth wing chairman.

"(I), personally, as well as the network of Muhammadiyah's youth and other autonomous organization elements within Muhammadiyah, have asked this honorable forum to support Prabowo-Hatta in the presidential election," Daulay said in a press statement on Saturday.

Speaking at the second Assembly of Muhammadiyah, held in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on May 23-25, 2014, he noted that open support by Muhammadiyah's youth wing was important to avoid a "grey stance" in the presidential election on July 9.

Daulay noted that Prabowo and Hatta were an ideal pair and capable of bringing progress and dignity to Indonesia amidst strong global competition because they had a great deal of experience in administration. Their leadership styles had also passed the test, so they could bring change and accelerate the country's development programs, he added.

During the assembly, Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's second-largest Muslim organization, invited the two presidential-vice presidential pairs -- Prabowo-Hatta and Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla -- to present their visions and missions before the assembly's participants.
