REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Campaign head of Prabowo-Hatta for the next president and vice president, Mahfud MD ensured that the presidential candidate would pick one of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure as minister of religious affairs. NU is the country's largest Muslim organization.
"Prabowo has confirmed that he will appoint one of NU figures as minister of religious affairs. I proposed the name to him after discussed it with NU chairman, Said Aqil Siradj," Mahfud said on Wednesday as reported by Muhammad Ibrahim Hamdani.
Mahfud said that that was the reason why he agreed to become head of campaign team. He ensured that the position would not served by him nor Siradj. It must be a moderate NU leader, who does not scare Indonesian people that consisted of various religions.
