Jokowi kicks-off his presidential campaign in Papua

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA - Presidential candidate, Joko Widodo (known as Jokowi) and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla started an open campaign in Papua and Aceh on Thursday. Jokowi began his campaign with an impromptu visit, now popularly known as blusukan, to Pasar Baru Sentani, Jayapura.

A number of police officers had waited Jokowi's arrival at Sentani airport, Jayapura, since 6 am local time. A number of security personnel also stood on guard in Pasar Sentani Baru. After blusukan, Jokowi is scheduled to meet residents in Yoka village and then carry out the pilgrimage to Waena heroes cemetery.

The open campaign will be held at Waringin Sports Stadium. Jokowi is also scheduled to visit Jayapura mall and carry out Asr prayer at Jayapura mosque.

Former Solo mayor said that Papua and Aceh were symbolic for Indonesia. His visit to both provinces aims not only to gain more votes, but also show his commitment to improve and develop those provinces, which located at the eastern and western tip of Indonesian region.
