REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- Analyst of International Relation from University of North Sumatra in Medan, Rosmeri Sabri believes that foreign parties are monitoring presidential election in Indonesia. They want to determine, which pair of candidate that will not disrupt their business interests in Indonesia.
Foreign parties keep monitor the whole vision and mission of both pair of candidates in a number of debates that aired on national television. Sabri assessed that foreign parties were more prefer Joko Widodo (known as Jokowi) and Jusuf Kalla than Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa.
Jokowi is considered more friendly to foreign investment than Prabowo. Prabowo often said that foreign investors too much enjoyed Indonesian natural resources. He also criticized the state leakage. According to Sabri, foreign investors may be threatened by Prabowo's statement.
"Majority of our natural resources are taken to abroad. Prabowo said it many times," Sabri said recently.
The next presidential election will be followed by two pairs of candidate. The number one candidate, Prabowo-Hatta are supported by Gerindra, Golkar, United Development Party (PPP), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Crescent Star Party (PBB) and National Mandate Party (PAN). The number two candidate, Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla are supported by Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), National Democratic (Nasdem) Party, Hanura and Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI).
