REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Presidential candidate Joko Widodo (Jokowi) assured here on Monday that despite fasting, he will continue to carry out his campaign activities as usual.
Jokowi remarked that like before, he will continue visiting people. He further added that since long, he has engaged in the activity of "blusukan" or visiting places that are often neglected in order to reach out to the people at the grass root level, which has become his trademark soon after he was elected as the governor of Jakarta about two years ago.
"I will continue conducting my activities as usual, such as blusukan. That is my work," he stated at the logistics center of the Jokowi-JK campaign in Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Despite his lean stature, Jokowi has often been praised for his stamina. Jokowi confessed that he has often forgotten to take rest due to his tight schedule, adding that he often returned home at dawn.
"Once I returned home at four o'clock in the morning, but the latest one was at five. But, I did not violate the election rules as I only conducted campaigning in the morning," he added.
The former mayor of Solo, a city in Central Java, admitted that he will have more time to rest during the current month of Ramadhan. Jokowi stated that after conducting the morning prayers, he usually goes back to bed.
"During fasting, my bed time increases by three hours because after the morning prayers, I usually sleep again," he noted.
Jokowi is scheduled to visit several locations in Jakarta, on Monday, including Pondol Labu, Kebayoran Lama, and Ciputat traditional markets.
Jokowi, along with former vice president Jusuf Kalla, will contest against former military commander Prabowo Subianto, who pairs with former economic minister Hatta Rajasa in the election scheduled on July 9.
