REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Husni Kamil Manik has made sure that logistics for the upcoming presidential election arrive at polling stations on July 8, a day ahead of the election.
"Right now, all logistics for the election have arrived at the subdistrict and village levels. They are ready to be distributed to polling stations," he said here on Monday.
The commission had anticipated problems during logistic distribution to remote areas such as Yahukimo (Papua), Southwest Maluku (Maluku), Natuna (Riau Islands), Mentawai (North Sumatra), and Selayar (South Sulawesi), he said.
Learning from the lessons during the legislative elections on April 9, 2014, the KPU has ensured that the logistics arrive on time and the public could vote on the same day, he said.
Indonesia will conduct a democratic presidential election on July 9, 2014, which will be contested by two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Jusuf Kalla (JK).
Prabowo Subianto is a retired military general and the founder of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), while his running mate, Hatta Rajasa, is a former coordinating minister for economic affairs and the chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN).
Jokowi is Jakarta's governor and a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), while his running mate, JK, is a former vice president and a senior politician of the Golkar Party.
