REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI - Chief of the Indonesian Police General Sutarman lauded the public for being enthusiastic in exercising their right to vote during the presidential election on Wednesday.

"I have inspected several polling stations in Bekasi. The enthusiasm of the public to cast their votes at the polling stations is quite high," General Sutarman stated at the polling station (TPS) number 61 in Pekayonjaya, South Bekasi, West Java.

The police chief visited TPS number 13 in South Tambun, TPS number 22 in West Cikarang, and TPS number 61 and 74 in Pekayon, South Bekasi, among several other places. He remarked that so far, the implementation of the presidential election has not yet encountered any obstacle or problem, except for the distribution of election logistics in Yahukimo District, Papua Province. Of the 51 sub-districts in Yahukimo, 42 have received the required logistics, while nine others have not yet received them because the distribution efforts were hampered by bad weather.

"I am not sure whether they have to delay the election or they can manage to implement it today," he added.

Indonesians queued up at polling stations across the country to cast their votes for the presidential election on Wednesday, which commenced at 7 a.m. local time. According to the General Election Commission (KPU), a total of 190,307,134 eligible voters have been registered for the presidential election on July 9, 2014, with 486,866 polling stations set up across the archipelago. The total number of eligible voters included 2,038,711 overseas voters who cast their votes three to four days ahead of the nationwide polling day.
