REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN - A total of 283 foreign citizens are put at Medan detention center in Belawan, Medan, North Sumatra. They came to Indonesia without official documents, such as passport. Head of Medan Detention Center, Purbanus Sinaga said that they came from Somalia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Rohingya's Myanmar, Palestine, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa, Sudan, Taiwan, etc.
"Most of them have no official documents, especially passport," Sinaga said.
The 283 illegal immigrants consist of Afghans (26 people), Bangladesh (11), Palestine (17), Myanmar (59), Somalia (62), and Sri Lanka (40). Next, Iran (17), Sudan (22), Eritrya (2), South Africa (1), Pakistan (9), Taiwan (1) and Nepal (1). No embassy representative from respective countries comes to handle the immigrants so far.
