REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Followers of the An-Nadzir sect in Samata in the district of Gowa, South Sulawesi, concluded their fasting month on Sunday, unlike most others who would only do it on Monday.

They marked the event with a congregational prayer held at an oil palm plantation field.

"We started fasting earlier or on June 27 and so we concluded it today," Lukman A Bakti who led the prayer said.

He said the sect determined the end of fasting based on signs of the nature such as tide and moon movement.

An-Nadzir followers from adults to children thronged the location wearing their special costumes of black robes and veils for the women.

Some of the men wore blonde hair to mark the identity of their community.

Police personnel from the Gowa resort command stood by at some corners of the location to guard the event.

"Thank God. Although we are different from others in determining the end of the fasting month we have been allowed to celebrate it according to our conscience," one of the followers, Syamsiah said after the prayer.
