REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA - At least 30 people, mostly police officers and several civilians were killed by unknown gunmen in the Lanny Jaya district of Papua.
"I received reports stating that at least 30 police personnel and civilians have become victims of a violent attack launched by an unknown gunmen group in Lanny Jaya," District Chief Befa remarked here on Friday.
What the armed group has been doing was grave concern, and the military or police officers should have taken stronger steps to avoid people from falling victims to the violent attack, he affirmed. District Chief Befa stated that he would support every step taken by the police, which was backed by the military, in order to arrest the armed groups.
"Do not be afraid to carry out any acts of human right violation because the armed groups are also doing it," he affirmed.
Befa emphasized that if the matter was not addressed immediately then the brutality of the armed groups potentially increased and led to more casualties. According to reports, two armed groups, led by Puron Wenda and Enden Wanimbo, frequently attack in the Lanny Jaya district and harming the civilians.
