REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Senior comedian Mamiek Prakoso who began his career with 'Srimulat' comedian group, died at Brayat Minulya Hospital in Solo, Central Java, on Sunday afternoon.

A short tax message received by Antara on Sunday afternoon reported that the comedian died of an illness at the age of 53 at the hospital.

Mamiek Prakoso was born in Salatiga, Central Java, on April 6, 1961. He started his career as a comedian with the 'Srimulat' comedian group.

He is the older brother of singer Didi Kempot. No immediate information on the illness he was suffering from that caused his death.
