REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Jakarta office has undergone a shortage of blood stock as a result of low number of donors during the Idul Fitri holiday, a local PMI official said.
The shortage of blood bags was found in all blood types, Head of the Jakarta PMI's Blood Supplying Division Dian Winarti said as quoted by Republika on Thursday.
"The demand of blood bags remains unchanged during the Idul Fitri holiday. The hospitals in Jakarta need 800 blood bags per day. As a result, it is not easy for us to meet the demands," she said.
The remaining stocks available in the PMI Jakarta office consists of 30 bags of A blood type, 30 bags (B), 10 bags (AB) and 60 bags (O), she said adding that those blood bags were only used for emergency situation, such as helping mothers to give birth.
