REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan said that palm oil plantation permit in Riau should not be issued again as the area now had reached four million ha. Two million hectares of the total lands are not licensed.

"The two million hectares of palm oil plantations are illegal because it does not have permission. So that, it should not be additional plantation permits," Hasan said on Wednesday.

The new palm oil plantation is dangerous because it could spread to peat lands or conservation area of Tesso Nilo National Park. It will trigger harmfull effects to the ecosystem and environment. Moreover, land clearing by burning scheme will cause a tremendous impact.

Ministry of Forestry will give appreciation to Riau Police in law enforcement in forestry sector. Government and law enforcement agencies promote the welfare approach in the spirit of reform, democracy and the Police will not arrest the perpetrators without full evidences like before.

The welfare approach is not yet success to raise community awareness. Now, government follow up through socialization.
