REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Police have detained four demonstrators suspected of being provocateurs at a rally during a Constitutional Court (MK) session hearing presidential election result dispute, Thursday.
"Since the demonstrators ignored the border lines, our personnel were forced to take action. Police have detained four people suspected of being provocateurs," head of the Public Information Center of the National Police's Public Relations, Brig Gen Boy Rafli Amar, said, Thursday.
The police were questioning the four demonstrators for further information, he said. They were arrested on charges of inciting fellow demonstrators to ignore the border line and break the police barricade, he said.
"They had invited other demonstrators to ignore the police rule and to break (the police barricade)," he said.
Boy said that since the police had taken steps to secure the Constitutional Court building they had to ensure the building was safe.
"We haven't banned them from staging a demonstration, but we can't give them access to the Constitutional Court building. Only certain people have access to the building. This must be understood by demonstrators," he said.
The police said earlier that no one suffered gunshot injuries during the brief scuffle that broke out between security officers and demonstrators near the Constitutional Court which was hearing a presidential election result dispute.
"We want to clarify that no one suffered a gunshot injury during the brief incident around the Horse Statue circle not far from the Constitutional Court building," Boy said.
He denied reports that there were two gunshot victims who were now being treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) Public Hospital.
"We have no reports from our officers in the field of any gunshot victim from the incident," he added.
