REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The next speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) must have a clean and corruption-free track record to uphold the prestige of the legislative institution, an observer stated.

Emrus Sihombing stated here on Sunday that it will be inappropriate if the people's representative is an individual who has been involved in corruption.

Several Golkar Party cadres have been discussing prospective candidates for the position.

"It is a normal thing. But what is important is to never let a person with an alleged corruption track record or involved in corruption to lead the institution," he emphasized.

One of the reportedly nominated Golkar cadres is Setya Novanto. Sihombing, however, suggested that apart from him, Golkar will nominate another candidate.

"If Golkar wants to have a better future, it should nominate another candidate," he pointed out.

Other nominated Golkar candidates are Fadel Muhammad, Rambe Kamrulzaman, Airlangga Hartarto, Mahyudin, Agun Ginanjar, and Ade Komarudin.

Setya Novanto has been associated with corruption cases such as the PON 2012 case and E-KTP.
