REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KOBA -- Central Bangka police had arrested a suspect in tin smuggling after being on the run for a week.
Paul (36) was arrested on charge of illegal possession of 1.8 ton of tin bars to be smuggled.
"Paul is facing ten years in jail if found guilty . He is now being investigated ," Central Bangka police chief adj. senior Comr.M Zainul said here on Tuesday.
In addition to jail term, the suspect could also be punished with a fine of Rp10 billion, Zainul said.
The case involved two other suspects -- Setio Irawan , the driver of truck carrying the tin bars and Wagiatmo , who was paid by Paul to help in the transport of the tin.
The smuggling attempt took place on Aug. 3 when two of the suspects were held on the spot but Paul managed to run away before he was nabbed later in his house in the sub-district of Sungaiselan.
The tin was to be carried to Jakarta via the port of Pangkalbalam of Pangkalpinang.
