REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Tuesday expressed his appreciation to fellow citizens for participating in the 2014 presidential election to elect new leadership.
President Yudhoyono at a press conference in the VVIP room of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport on Tuesday stated that overall the election had been successful despite certain dynamics.
"I thank every party, especially Indonesian citizens, for their high spirit and concrete effort," President Yudhoyono said, adding that because of the success in the election, leadership transition could be carried out.
Yudhoyono also appreciated the steps taken by the losing party in filing a lawsuit against the election process through legal and constitutional means. "This is a good sign for our politics," he said.
The president and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono will head for a bilateral meeting in Singapore until September 4. President Yudhoyono was scheduled to meet Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Tony Tan.
During the bilateral visit, President Yudhoyono will be accompanied by Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa, Coordinating Minister for Economy Affairs Chairul Tandjung, Minister of Education and Culture Muhammad Nuh, Minister of State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, and some high-ranking officials.
