REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono conducted a working visit to the Center for Linguistic Development Strategy and Diplomacy (PPSDB) at complex of Indonesia Peace and Security Center (IPSC), Sentul, Bogor, West Java on Monday. President was accompanied by Minister of Education and Culture (M Nuh), Minister of Defense (Purnomo Yusgiantoro) and other ministers in the United Indonesia Cabinet II.

Nuh explained that Indonesian language became national language since October 28, 1928 and a state language after the Independence Day, August 17, 1945. The use of Indonesian language is at 5th position before Chinese and English language.

"We hopes that Indonesian language will become an international language, not only in ASEAN but also in the United Nation," Nuh said on Monday.

To achieve this goal, Indonesian language will be introduced to military personnel from friendly countries at PPSDB.

Yudhoyono added that Indonesian language should be expanded as part of Indonesia's position as one of powerful countries in ASEAN region, also one of major players in global level.

For example, Australian government asked its people to learn Indonesian language. Indonesia is one of economic powers in ASEAN and G-20.

"We have large opportunities in major economic sectors. Business environment of both countries (Australia and Indonesia) will improve," Yudhoyono added.
