REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU - The Army's Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir asked military personnel who would be deployed in Indonesia-Papua New Guinea border areas to persuade members of Papua Independent Operation group to end the insurgency.

"We have asked the soldiers to conduct actions to persuade the insurgents," Munir said here Thursday during the debriefing for 450 border guard soldiers.

There were several rebel members who repented and reunited with Indonesia due to the persuasion by the Army's soldiers, Munir said. However, the Army has prepared the soldier to avoid ambushment by the insurgent groups.

Additionally, the Chief of 174/Anim Ti Waninggap Military Rayon Command Brigadier General Supartodi ordered the soldiers to teach locals some simple farming techniques or breeding hens for eggs to improve their livestock.

"Moreover, the living cost in remote areas is expensive, so people should have creative ideas to utilize the land," Supartodi said.

"They can utilize the yield for their own benefit. The price of food stock in the area is expensive," Supartodi said. "They could bring eggs from Palu and breed them in Papua."
