REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governer Frans Lebu Raya hoped that the next president will carry forward the Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development (MP3EI) program as the locals still need it.
"Some 4.9 million people living in this island-based region still long for the MP3EI program because they want to free themselves from poverty. For its poverty rate, the province is ranked 32nd out of the total 33 provinces in this country," he said here on Thursday.
The public has benefitted from the MP3EI projects such as the constructions of roads, bridges, airports, and seaports in NTT over the past two years, he pointed out.
He believes that MP3EI is an extraordinary program for ensuring balanced economic development in every region across Indonesia.
The central government has set a target that through the implementation of the MP3EI program, there will no longer be any economically backward region in Indonesia by 2025.
NTT needs to develop 16,010 kilometers of road infrastructure. The province needs a main seaport and a secondary airport.
Until the first three months of 2014, a total of Rp838.8 trillion was spent for the implementation of the MP3EI projects. Of the total funds, Rp397.73 trillion was used for infrastructure construction and Rp441.2 trillion for the real sector.
The funds were sourced from the State Budget (Rp131.67 trillion), state enterprises (Rp153.23 trillion), the private sector (Rp53.89 trillion), and joint funds from the state enterprises (BUMN) and the private sector (Rp89.17 trillion).
Of the 204 infrastructure projects, 47 projects worth Rp57.2 trillion were in Kalimantan, 40 projects worth Rp55.6 trillion in Sumatra, 32 projects worth Rp217.7 trillion in Java, 33 projects worth Rp27.15 trillion in Papua and Maluku, 28 projects in Bali and Nusa Tenggara worth Rp17.5 trillion, and 24 projects worth Rp22.4 trillion in Sulawesi.
