REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ISTANBUL -- US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Ankara Friday as part of his current regional mission designed to rally states' support for international action against the militant group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/ISIS), the private Ikhlas news agency reported.
Kerry is scheduled to hold talks with the country's top leaders during his two-day stay in the nation, one of Washington's close allies in the region.
The news agency said Kerry's discussions with the Turkish leaders would deal with issues of bilateral concern, regional and international affairs.
Kerry has already attended a broad conference in Saudi Arabia, primarily aimed at establishing a front against the ISIL, which has recently spread its influence on Syrian and Iraqi territories, thus posing a serious threat to the central Iraqi Government and regional Western interests.
Turkey reportedly "has reservations" regarding wide-scale military engagement against the ISIL, which controls wide swathes of oil-rich lands in northern Iraq.
