REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- The Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) is scheduled to hold a national meeting here on Friday to Sunday to among others officially change its stance from an opposition to a party that supports the government.
"The 4th national working meeting will be started with an official statement from Mme. Megawati Soekarnoputri as general chairperson to official declare the party's support to president-elect Joko Widodo and vice president-elect Jusuf Kalla," PDIP secretary general Tjahjo Kumolo said here on Thursday.
A total of 1,595 cadres are expected to attend the event including Joko Widodo and also Jusuf Kalla.
Tjahjo said the meeting would be very important as a moment of truth for the party to prepare itself as a government party.
He said the change in the political stance happened after PDIP came out as the winner in the legislative elections and also the presidential election in cooperation with some other parties that support the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla pair.
Tjahjo said the meeting carrying a theme of "Fighting for People's Welfare" and a sub-theme of "Filling Years of Victory with a 'Trisakti'Way" would focus on discussing PDIP's plan to implement its election victories with programs for improving the welfare of the people.
