REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Surabaya city administration will build off-street parking facilities in seven different places in the city to reduce on-street parking which often causes congestion.
Only one of the seven off-street parking facilities will be built this year, head of the traffic section of the Surabaya city transportation office Irvan Wahyudi Drajad said here on Thursday.
"The off-street parking facility will be built on idle land near the TVRI station at Mayjend Sungkono street," he said.
The other six off-street parking facilities will be built in Adityawarman, Tegalsari, Menur, Keputran, Kertajaya and Joyoboyo areas.
The areas are close to business centers, shopping centers and food courts, he said.
On-street parking has disturbed traffic so that it must be abolished in stages, he said.
"The tariff of on-street parking which reaches Rp1,500 per car is far cheaper than that of off-street parking which reaches Rp5,000," he said.
