REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING - Chinese Minister of Defense General Chang Wanquan expressed his willingness to support the Indonesian military's efforts to modernize its weapon systems. He said that during a meeting with Indonesian Minister of Defense Purnomo Yusgiantoro on Tuesday,
"We are ready to support the Indonesian military to improve both its personnel and weapon systems. We are ready to support Indonesia unconditionally. We always were and will always be (ready to support the Indonesian military) in the future," Chang stated.
According to Chang, China and Indonesia have enjoyed sound cooperation in the defense sector during the last five years.
Apart from increased number of exchange visits between the defense ministry officials of both countries, Indonesia and China have also held several joint military training exercises. Defense cooperation between the two countries was initiated with the signing of the Indonesia-China Defense Cooperation agreement on November 7, 2007.
