REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) felt cheated by Democratic Party after the ruling party representatives at the House decided to walk out of the plenary meeting on the regional elections (Pilkada) bill at Parliament building. PDIP politician, Yasona Laoli expressed his disappointment as the party had supported the third option proposed by Democratic Party.
"We regret that Democratic Party left us after they claimed to fight for people," Laoli said on Friday.
According to him, PDI began to suspect the hypothesis of 'political imaging,' like they were fighters. Democratic Party previously proposed the third option, namely direct election with 10 options. However, these options did not receive any response from House of Representatives deputy speaker, Priyo Budi Santoso.
The final result of votes from the camp supporting direct elections only totaled 135, consisted of PDIP, National Awakening Party (PKB) and Hanura Party. The figure was far fewer than the 226 votes given by the camp supporting indirect elections, consisted of Golkar Party, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), National Mandate Party (PAN), United Development Party (PPP) and Gerindra Party.
