REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The elected president, Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo suspected a large scale illegal fishing activities happened in Ambon waters. Based on a special report, Jokowi claimed that the activity had been going on for a long time, but there was no action from government.
"In the middle of the night, it just like a party in Ambon waters. There are sparkling lights and large ships taking our ocean resources," Jokowi said Tuesday.
Once he sworn in as president, Jokowi promised to investigate the report. If it is true, he would stop the illegal fishing that has increased the total losses to the country.
"If we leave it, we will let sin have dominion over us," Jokowi said.
Based on a data, Indonesia has experienced the loss of 300 trillion IDR per year due to illegal fishing activities. Hence, Indonesia must have unmanned aircrafts or drones that can oversee Indonesian waters. Jokowi will set three drones in western, central and eastern Indonesia with the costs of 4.5 trillion IDR.
"It's better to buy drones with 4.5 trillion IDR compared to the loss of 300 trillion IDR," Jokowi said.
