REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Executive Board of Indonesian Fencing Association (Ikasi) sends six athletes depart to the Asian Under 23 Fencing Championships in Manila, Philippines on Oct 9-15, 2014. Deputy Secretary General of Ikasi, Hans Nayoan said that the six fencers won the national championship in Samarinda recently.

Three fencers will use three foil weapons, namely Erpiana (East Kalimantan), Chintia Pua (East Kalimantan) and Anissa Berliana (West Java). Next, three fencers will use three epee weapons, namely Rian (Central Java), Fajar Raharjo (West Kalimantan) and Patracova Ferry Djambak (South Sumatra).

"We only send two types of weapons out of 12 weapons. Ikasi must consider supports from the sponsor," Nayoan said on Thursday.

According to Nayoan, this event will be used to increase the capability of athletes. Indonesia has reached Southeast Asian level in fencing championship. He hopes that all fencers will perform optimally and they can contribute a medal.

Indonesian achievement in fenching championsip decreased in the last decade due to the slow down of nation sporting achievement. In Sea Games 2011, Indonesia only got a gold medal through women's sabre, while in Sea Games 2014 Incheon, the country was only able to enter the last eight.
