REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Police will allow Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's supporters to hold a post-inauguration procession to escort the new President and Vice-President to the State Palace on October 20, said the chief of police.
"No problem if they (the Jokowi's supporters) hold a procession from Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to the State Palace," Indonesian Police Chief General Sutarman stated on Wednesday.
Earlier, the police had asked Jokowi's supporters to celebrate the presidential inauguration peacefully and without any kind of processions. But in the end, said Sutarman, the police gave its permission for the procession.
According to the plan, the new pesident and vice-president will travel from the parliamentary building to Hotel Indonesia Roundabout by car, and from there the supporters will escort them to the State Palace.
"There will be some events during the procession. From Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, they (Jokowi-JK) will be probably escorted to the State Palace on horses," Sutarman pointed out.
Sutarman assured that police personnel will be ready on standby to secure the procession. The police will deploy 24,800 personnel on the inauguration day: inside the Parliament Building, in the parliament yard, outside the building, and in other strategic economic centers in Jakarta.
