REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Zulkifli Hasan revealed plans of meeting Prabowo Subianto, the Great Indonesia Movement Party's (Gerindra's) chief patron, on Friday, to deliver an invitation to the presidential inauguration on October 20.
"We will meet him at his residence tomorrow," Zulkifli noted on Thursday.
The MPR speaker made the remarks after meeting former president B.J. Habibie in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Thursday, to extend an invitation to attend the presidential inauguration. He said his side would also try to arrange a meeting between president-elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi) with his former rival during presidential election, Prabowo.
"Pak (Mr) Prabowo is a statesman. I believe he will attend the presidential inauguration," the new MPR speaker added.
Jokowi and vi president-elect Jusuf Kalla will be installed as president and vice president on Monday after they won the presidential and vice presidential race on July 9, 2014.
While Prabowo Subianto paired with Hatta Rajasa who also chairman of National Mandate Party, in the presidential elections.
"I will come if I am invited," Rajasa said, referring to the inauguration on Monday. Yet, he was not aware if Prabowo would also attend the ceremony.
