REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The new installed Pesident Joko Widodo sets target to achieve self sufficiency in rice, sugar, and corn in the next three to four year.

"We must work hard to boost our products in agriculture to achieve self sufficiency in some number of agricultural commodities, including some imported products including corn, rice, and sugar," Widodo or better known as Jokowi, said in Jakarta during a teleconference with communities from eight different regions in Indonesia on Monday.

Without elaborating his program, Jokowi expreswd his hope that he needed help from all stake holders.

"This is not easy, but if God's willing, i believe we can achieve our target in the next three or four years," he emphasized.

Jokowi has faced some criticisms referring to his ambition on food sufficiency especially on rice, sugar, com, meat, and soybean. Among them is Khudori, an observer who wrote in an article that Indonesia was still highly dependent on import of some commodities. Indonesian import on sugar for example, reaches 54 percent, soybean 78 percent, and meat 18 percent.
