REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) has asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to postpone plan to announce his cabinet line up as there are a number of the candidates' reputation tainted with corruption. Jokowi, who was installed on Monday is expected to announce the names of his cabinet ministers on Tuesday.

"ICW asks Jokowi to postpone the announcement," ICW working committee coordinator Ade Irawan said in a written statement.

"We urge Jokowi to postpone the announcement until we are all convinced that all the candidates are the best choice, legally clear with strong integrity," he said.

ICW said a number of 43 candidates selected by Jokowi to fill his list of cabinet line up and high ranking officials were doubted in their integrity to fight corruption. Earlier, Jokowi has given the name of the 43 candidates to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as confidential to probe their track records. It is not known how ICW has managed to get the names.

Irawan said the candidates' reputation were in doubt and potential to be named corruption suspects with suspicious bank accounts or financial transactions. He added, under the law on ministries, the president is given 14 days after his installation to announce the names of his cabinet ministers.

A day before his installation Jokowi said the "names are ready to be announced." Political pundits have reminded Jokowi of domination of the legislative body by the coalition of opposition parties.

The domination of the parliament by the opposition necessitates his consistency in forming a cabinet with highly professional figures with undoubted reputation and integrity, they said.

"It is not like when he was mayor of the Central Java city of Solo where the regional legislative assembly was dominated by his party," Executive Director of Pusaka Trisakti Fahmi said on Saturday.

Jokowi was mayor of Solo where he gained a reputation as one of the best mayors in the world before he was named Jakarta governor.
