REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Great Indonesia Coalition (KIH) declared vote of no confidence because the coalition said it refused to recognize the result of elections for the House of Representatives Commission leaders.
"We do not recognize the election system. Therefore, we declare a vote of no confidence on the result," Arif Wibowo, the KIH spokesman said on Wednesday.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) legislator said five factions of the KIH were not involved in the process of election. "In principle we are ready to work, but the system being practiced was an insult to the institution. We are offended as we also carry constitutional mandate," he said.
KIH groups political parties that supported the government of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Jusuf Kalla (JK) and KMP grouped the majority parties still loyal to former presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. The PDIP was the winner in the last legislative election but its coalition, the KIH, remains the minority facing Red and White Coalition (KMP). The House Commission elections so far have all been won by KMP which already took all seats of the House speaker and deputy speakers
"The ways being practiced by the KMP are embarrassing and are not fitting honorable members of the high institution. They are interested only in winning more power and bent on blocking the constitutional government of Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla," he said, adding that KIH would not continue to oppose the "tyranny of the majority and the injustice."
Meanwhile Daniel Johan, a legislator from the faction of the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), also a member of KIH, said KMP had from the beginning shown its greed for power by revising the law for their own interest.
"This is a bad precedence for democracy. They have worked together to take all political power at the parliament to block all moves by the government of Jokowi-JK," Johan said.
The five factions of the KMP won elections for the chairmanship of Commission I, Commission II, Commission III, Commission IV, Commission VI , Commission VIII, Commission IX and Commission X. Elections for the chairmen of Commission V, Commission VII and Commission XI are yet to be held. No member of the KIH took part in the election in protest of the system .
