President Jokowi praises Tianjin City in China

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING - President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo praised the city of Tianjin for its orderliness, cleanliness and parks during his visit to the city on Sunday. He expressed the praise when he met with the city mayor, Huang Xingguo, at the latter's office.

"Thank you for your warm welcome. I have passed through the city center and I saw it is very orderly, clean and has a lot of parks. It is well managed," he said to the mayor.

President Jokowi is a former mayor of Solo city in Central Java and governor of capital city Jakarta before he was inaugurated as president on October 21 following his election victory. He went to Tianjin by train for around 30 minutes.

"I congratulate you for your election as president. This is your first visit here after you were elected and you have taken your time while you are busy preparing for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) summit to come to the city. This is an honor for us and it shows how big your attention to Tianjin is," Huang told President Jokowi.

While in Tianjing President Joko Widodo took a look at a number of infrastructure, power projects and the port. He was flanked by First Lady Iriana, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel and deputy chairperson of the Regional Representatives Council, GKR Hemas.

Tianjin is one of the four provincial-level cities in China with the others including Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing. The city with a population of 14.1 million is home to important industries such as petrochemical, textile, car and iron industries.

Tianjin has the biggest port in China's norther region and the most important maritime access for Beijing. In 2013 it handled 500 tons of crgo and 13 million TEUs containers making it the fourth busiest port and the ninth biggest container port in the world. The Tianjin port is connected with more than 600 ports in 180 countries in the world.
