REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING -- President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo talked on Islam and democracy during the meeting with his American counterpart, President Barack Obama, in the sidelines of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in Beijing. Jokowi also emphasized in deepening bilateral cooperation, especially on defense sector.
"Indonesia is the biggest Muslim country in the world. We have successfully elected president. It shows that Islam and democracy can walk side by side," Jokowi said on Monday, November 10.
The furniture businessman turned President also said that Indonesia tried to eliminate extremism and radicalism through cultural and religious approach.
During the meeting, the president was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Coordinating Minister of Economy Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Trade Rahmat Gobel and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto.
