REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SRAGEN -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the reduction of working hours for female civil servants with infants was still a discourse, and lots of people had yet to understand about this initiative comprehensively.

The reduction of working hours was just given to the female civil servants who had infants. "Thus, this is not applied to all (female civil servants-ed.)," he said here Friday (5/12).

However, the main purpose of this initiative was to maintain Indonesia's bright future because children in the country got a good care of their working mothers who still had plenty of time for them, he said.

The vice president's idea was positively responded. Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi, for instance, has hinted that the female civil servants with infants will be given less working hours to enable them to take care of their children.

"The reduction of working hours is intended to give them (female civil servants) more time to take care of their children," he said on Thursday.

Chrisnandi noted that the government has been considerate of female employees who have infants.

"We will begin by seeking the opinion of all government agencies, from ministries to sub-district offices, about the move," he said.

Currently, Indonesian civil servants have to work eight hours a day, and those eligible for reduced hours are expected to work only six hours a day.
