Jokowi orders to sink illegal vessels Saturday

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo ordered Coordinating Minister of Politics, Laws and Security Tedjo Edy Purdjianto to sink three foreign illegal vessels tomorrow. The move is a strong statement against illegal fishers in Indonesian waters.

"I instruct Coordinating Minister of Politics, Laws and Security sink three illegal vessels on Saturday," Jokowi said in his official Facebook page on Thursday, December 4.

He stated that the message from the move is that Indonesia was serious to tackle illegal fishing. "We have to protect our waters from robbery," he said.

The business man turned president reminded that every inch of Indonesian territory was an honor to the nation. Two Indonesian Navy Vessels or KRIs, Barracuda-633 and Todak-631, have arrived in Anambas Island in Riau Islands on Friday morning.

"We will sink three vessels from Vietnam," Commander of KRI Barracuda-633, Saryanto, said. The vessels were caught conducting illegal fishing in Indonesian waters.

The three Vietnamese vessels are KG 90433 ATS 005 with Van Thanh Son as captain and 2 ship crew, KG 94366 TS ATS 006 with Nguyen Duy as captain and 23 crew, and KG 94266 TS ATS 012 with Nguyen Duc Van as captain and 20 crew. Navy will firstly save the captain and the crew before sinking vessels.
