REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo forces PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya to pay compensation for mudflow victims in Sidoarjo, East Java. The compensation is worth 781 billion IDR.
"The President demands Lapindo to pay compensation as late as 2015," Cabinet Secretary, Andi Widjajanto, said on Thursday, December 4. The victims have waited for eight years for the compensation. "Lapindo has no reason. It is ready financially," he said.
Lapindo also has debt around 500 billion IDR to other business affected by the mudflow. "Lapindo's debt is around 1.4 trillion IDR," he said. Widjajanto has met with Sidoarjo Mudflow Mitigation Agency (BPLS) to talk on the Lapindo's debt to public.
