REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National police chief General Sutarman visited Natuna in the province of Riau Islands that borders Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam for an inspection.
"We wish to assure police members' readiness in carrying out law enforcement in the country's outermost islands," he said in a written statement received on Saturday.
Sutarman was flanked by Riau Islands regional police commander Brigadier General Arman Depari. He checked personnel's readiness, means and facilities as well as held coordination with offices concerned to assure security and law enforcement in the waters in the region. Natuna must be given a maximal security because it has many isles and rich natural resources, he said.
Maximal security must be assured with provision of complete personnel, weapons and patrol ships, he said. The national police chief has been touring some border regions including Natuna Islands to assure personnel's readiness.
